Today's highest resolution video content is 1920 x 1080 for over 2,000,000 pixels. A standard 720p HD display has less than 1,000,000 display pixels, and must discard half of the original video content, resulting in decreased picture detail. On the other hand, a 1080p Full HD Display has over 2,000,000 display pixels, maintaining the full video resolution and clarity. A CineSpeed Display has an LCD Response Time of 8ms or less to ensure that the display is also fast enough for high quality home theater. DynaLightDynamic Backlight
Utilizes advanced histogram image processing to monitor the brightness level of each video frame and automatically adjusts the backlight intensity based on the image content. This precise signal analysis allows for 256 levels of backlight control and can create a Dynamic Contrast that is 7 to 10 times that of the original panel contrast. The result is a powerful picture with deep blacks for increased detail and incredible depth. Gaming Mode
Enhances the gaming experience by reducing game controller delay. The Gaming Mode allows the video signal to bypass select picture circuitry to shorten the overall signal to screen time. I bought this television at best buy a few weeks ago, and I am incredibly happy with it. As stated by other reviewers, this is a SOLID entry level hdtv with only minor drawbacks.
Picture Quality: is GREAT. Those with INCREDIBLY picky eyes will be the ones that sit there and analyze each pixel, but the bottom line is this is a 1080p television and the blu-rays and video games I play through my PS3 (playstation 3) look fantastic. Absolutely can't beat the quality for the price!!
Sound Quality: this is where the tv gets shaky. the sound isn't great, just average. A different reviewer said that flat televisions don't become flat by getting large speakers, very true. you'll want to buy some sort of speaker system to go with the television to get that true theater experience. PERSONALLY, I just use the tv in my 10x12 room so the sound is adequate for me, but i'm still thinking of getting speakers.
Features: the tv has great black levels and colors. you will want to do alot of tweeking right out of the box because all of the factory levels are set so high. Once you get the tv to a good spot, just sit back and enjoy looking at all the cracks and crevices on people's faces. there are some features that I don't think do much, like "game mode" specifically, but they are nice to have.
OVERALL: If this is your first foray into the HDTV world, like it was for me, I would HIGHLY recommend this television. This is especially recommended for those of us on a budget, but wanting to make the move to HD.

Overall its a great HDTV at a surprisingly low price, do not let the brand name of Toshiba fool you, it is a very good tv.
Pros: Good black level with little backlight bleeding, lively colors, good image quality and virtually no visually noticeable lag while watching 720p broadcasts of hockey games even as a 60hz TV. Bezel is nice and simple, could have been a little thinner.
Cons: None really, the glossy bezel is a dust and finger print magnet though.
Other: As with every other tv on the market, the factory calibration is garbage, just do a little research online and you shall find several configurations to make the colors correct. As mentioned before, the speakers are a little lacking, but not by much. Buying a 40" HDTV speakers should be the least of anyone's worry, as they should be combined with a home theater system for sound. Most importantly, watching movies and sports on this Toshiba from 8-10' away, the picture is almost flawless.

I bought the Toshiba to replace a Sharp LC37D6U that had a defective sound card.
It was very easy to set up right out of the box, great picture and compatiable w my Cox DVR.
So far a very positive experience. Recommend the product

Purchased this TV for $600. It was the best high dollar value purchase I made in quite some time. Although it is my family's first HDTV, the quality and value of it cannot be denied. As others have pointed out, the colors on the TV gravitate towards the warm/red side, but is easily remedied by the easy to use menu picture settings. One excellent feature of this tv is its Clear QAM tuner, while a standard on most LCDs these days, this particular QAM tuner worked quite well with my area's cable service. The channels are crisp and clear without having to pay for an extra HD service plan. This works out great since I can live with watching HD network channels and use my PS3 for movies etc.
To sum the whole experience up: Once we unpacked and set it up (easily), we were all converted to the HD era. Now we are looking to purchase another larger screen to replace our existing 15 year old 60" projection tv.

I'll start with saying that this is my first LCD TV, I already had a 29" 720p Samsung HDTV Slim fit tube TV and is still going. But the 40" looks awsome in my living room, I got this TV for a great deal, it has 1080p and has great sound unlike other LCD TV sets, I have it hooked up to a small 2.1 system for when watching games or a movie, but for regulat TV watching the speakers are just fine, I haven't tried a bluray movie on it as I'm still waiting for my Bluray laptopSony VAIO VGN-NW270F/S 15.5-Inch Silver Laptop (Windows 7 Home Premium) to arrive. The only feature I don't like about this is the Dynalight control, it keeps changing the brightness of the image depending of what you're watching, not sure who thought of this idea but the effect is awfull, fortunatelly this is an option you can disable. All things considered this is a great TV set at an affordable price, not sure if a few hundred dollars for all those fancy options would make a noticeable difference, I'm very happy with my purchase and would definately recommend to anyone looking for a 40" 1080p LCD TV, plus I trust that being a Toshiba set it will last, will update the review if anything goes wrong, I've had it for 2 months now.
